Xubuntu pre-install questions

I'm now sitting at the machine I described earlier (I wasn't before)
and I can tell you I vastly over-estimated the size of /.  It's only a
1 GB partition, and I have 600 MB free.  A / that takes 2.33 GB seems
huge to me!
