To be explicit, what you need to do to fix this is add a line in your Device
section in xorg.conf like:

VideoRam 8192

Where 8192 is the amount of memory to use, in KB
Google tells me that the 9880 has 8MB of memory, so that's what you would
try first, assuming that's right.  If it turns out that that still doesn't
work, you should start x in failsafe mode, copy the log file, and see how
it's configured in that mode.
