working out workshops, and the MythTV workshop "?"

So we had another workshop where nobody came.
And I sent out a discussion starter, to the list, to find out why.
I also said that this time there had to be a minimum number of
sign-ups before the thing could be said to be actually happening. I
had hoped that this would stimulate participation, and give everyone
involved an idea of what (and who) to expect. It seems to be having
the opposite effect, with a call for alternate locations and concerns
expressed re; event expectations.

Fair enough !
At least, for this one, I'd like to retract any sign-up minimum and
any or all cancellations resulting from said minimum. Again; as I am
signed up, I'm having a mythTV workshop ALONE, if I have to.. y'know..
in between bussing tables and making people coffees and stuff, there
is NO minimum sign-up on this one.

That said, there is now discussion of alternate locations, for the
MythTV thing, and I'm standing by for re-confirmation of the event.
It's really ok one way or another, guys, if Starbucks'll give you a
power bar, or you want to get together elsewhere, I hope it goes
smashingly ! I'm just trying to be accommodating.

Some say charge a fee (refundable) in advance, some say anything like
that is a show-stopper. We'll have to work it out. It would really be
great to know if an event was likely to be over attended, or under
attended. As the idea of signing up at the website has caused alarm, I
propose that for future workshops hosted by linuxcaffe, the organizer
of the event will be charged with attendance forecasting, and such.

how about this;
if you would like to attend, would you please email me personally (off-list)
If the organizers re-confirm the event, it's a GO.
the event will go on, even if you don't, so don't sweat it.
and you can sign-up at linuxcaffe.ca, or not.

I think we all want to have workshops, and linuxcaffe is learning how to do it.
more discussion, trial and error, and more discussion, where there's a
will there's a way.
k?

thanks,
djp
