Among other things. Several years ago I looked into
what was involved in getting an outdoor amateur radio
antenna (my licence being VE3ZAA). At the time (and I
am not sure if things have changed since) word was
that antenna towers under 65 feet did NOT need a
permit from the city. Anything over 65 feet and be
ready to play nice down at city hall.. Further this
was for the old City of Toronto, North York I gather
had (has?) somewhat different rules.

Read about one Amateur Radio operator in the U.S. that
moved into an area where outdoor antennas were (due to
zoning laws) illegal. His solution was to put up a big
flag pole with a big U.S. flag at the top. The reason
the flag pole was a solution was because the pole was
made from plastic, and inside the pole is where he hid
his antenna... :-) .
