This is going off topic from this thread, but I wanted to comment that
this wouldn't be secure on most filesystems..
1) I write a file to my disk
2) I repeatedly edit, and overwrite that file. The file could now be
physically stored in a different location of the disk.
3) shred the file on my disk
4) notice that the old copies of the file are still scattered
insecurely throughout the disk.
