Indeed, when you receive a chunk of code under one license, it doesn't
concern you that the code has been used elsewhere under a different
license, and you don't have to think about it.  The important thing in
this case is whether his employer is willing to use code under license
(which, to be clear, is not the GPL, but a different one, for anyone
still confused about this) rather than owning the right to all of
their code.
