Here I am answering my own question:

The latest issue of the HUB flyer has several ads for disc duplicators. It
appears that something called a 'Wytron' controller operates an array of
slave writers. Dunno how this thing would appear from Linux - the ideal
would be that it appears as a stardard writer but clones the write across
the array.

Sonnam also appear to sell CD and DVD write arrays.
