On the machine I'm doing the scp from (p733), even though the key didn't
match (the so-called "fingerprint" looked more like a MAC address than a
key) and the filename was different (/root/.ssh/known_hosts instead of
/root/.ssh/known_hosts:1), I just remarked (#) the first line in the
file. I tried the scp again and this time it worked:

[root at p733 chris]# scp -r /backupdrive/a800buonp733/paulinework
pauline-Q0ErXNX1RuZDlWMHxMKk0g at public.gmane.org:/home/pauline/paulinework
The authenticity of host '192.168.0.3 (192.168.0.3)' can't be established.
RSA key fingerprint is [deleted].
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?

I typed "yes" and the scp completed!

Thanks everyone.

Chris
