Base64 in Redhat9, SuSe10, ...

On Slackware, I have 'mimencode' (part of Metamail package) which does
Base64 encoding/decoding.  I looked into Redhat 9 and SuSE 10, and can't
find anything comparable.  How do you guys encode/decode base64?
