You can try Ethereal or TCP dump, to see what's happening.  However, I
suspect the tech didn't know what she's talking about.  Why would any
amount of traffic cause a DSL line failure?  Also I'd suspect she was
adjusting levels or similar, to reduce error rate, not adjusting error
correction.
