Thanks for the reply, but I figured out my problem earlier today. 
  For anyone interested, yesterday I built Java RPMs as 
instructed on www.fedorafaq.org then installed them. 
Uninstalling the Java fonts RPM solved the problem.

Thanks again!  Oh and thanks for the Fedora DVD!
