Ping response slow

Hello All,

  I have installed a new linux server on the network a few weeks back. It has RH Enterprise Server installed. Now I notice that sometimes, other linux workstations on the network are having difficulities pinging it. The problem is kind of on-and-off, however, if i ping the new server from the server runs dns, it never had any problem. 

  In addition, there are a few windows workstaions on the newtwork and when i ping the new server from them, i got a slight delay and it pings.

  Any idea what may be the cause.
