IBM notebook 56k modems

I have an R31 and the modem works fine in SUSE.  I haven't tried it from
a live CD though.  Also, a few days ago, I booted a T21 with the linux
system rescue CD to recover data from a friend's crashed hard drive
(XP).  It worked well.
