Without a threaded view, things would get rather confusing in short 
order for anyone who deals with any sort of volume of messages. Agreed 
that with a threaded view it is somewhat of an unnecessary thing, but 
even with filters for folders and contacts, I'd have a hard time 
figuring out which messages are an immediate priority and which can wait.
