CDs play in W98 but not FC2

The Alsamixer that opens with the alsamixer command shows only one 
control for CD - doesn't seem to be a mute/unmute function in that 
application. The GUI Alsamixer shows both drives (CD-ROM and CD burner) 
- on both of these Mute is not checked.
