A GFI is a Ground Fault Interrupter. It's a box that is mounted in the
fuse panel and pops if a person touches a live wire and ground anywhere
on a circuit. It also pops if there is leakage from the wiring to ground
(in the walls). It will pop so fast that it actually saves the life of
the person being electrocuted.
