In 2-phase quadrature power you have the exact same result. That is not 
the reason why 3-ph is better. The reason is copper line weight per unit 
length and power transmitted is maximum, for a given voltage, and it is 
much easier to generate high power dc from it (especially with 19th 
century equipment).
