Safety in numbers. Now that the obstacles to use of open source are less 
technical and more political/economic, advocates need to deal with the 
CYA mentality of managers for whom "safety" is more important than 
reduced cost or greater flexibility. Having evidence of widespread use 
of open source  in many industries helps confront FUD-based objections 
that it's too unproven.
