mms:// how to question

Hey all!
Has anyone had experience saving streams from an mms server? I'm trying to 
view some news articles but all I get is a asx.asp file which appears to be 
xml with a mms:// link. I looked at various mms client and didn't find 
anything that is currently maintained or useful. I tried opening the steam 
with xmms and mplayer but that doesn't appear to work either. Would anyone 
know of a tool to use to save the stream so I can watch it and possibly save 
it?
