Where can I buy a linux-friendly laptop?

I have my eye on that laptop, also.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy USB modem?  I assume USB modem is not
a "softmodem".  If anyone used USB modem successfully, what device do I
link /dev/modem to?
