"funny" URL redirections

When I tried it on my ancient Netscape, it couldn't find a host named
"http", so it asked search.netscape.com to search on that word, and the
first page of results shows www.microsoft.com at the top.  Most likely,
Firefox is doing the same sort of thing but is hiding the intermediate
steps. 

Now, how www.microsoft.com ended up at the top of that list is another
question.
