I still have a party line (at the cottage).  You can't get a
new party line any more, but they can't make you change to a
(much higher priced) regular line.  That area switched from
3 digit numbers (you actually had to dial 5 digits but the
first 2 digits were always the same for everyone in the area)
about 20 years ago, though.  I wouldn't be surprised if they
had a Strowger switch until that time, too, but I don't know.
