Setting the timeout for the network card

I'm running Mandrake 9.2 on a laptop with a Wireless and a Network card.

When I start up without a network cable plugged into the network card (i.e.
using a wireless connection) it takes around a minute longer then when it is
plugged in. I assume that this is because the startup sequence is repeatedly
trying the network card connection before eventually timing out.

Does anyone know where this timeout is set? I'd like to shorten it.

Regards,
Jim.
