It couldn't be considered "open source", if he didn't intend to release
it.  He didn't mind "borrowing" other's code (he got some by dumpster
diving), but he had no intention of giving away anything he created.
Also, he developed his BASIC on Harvard computers, despite a prohibition
on using those computers for commercial purposes.  In short, he stole
other people's code, stole computer time, and then tried to keep
everything for himself.  Hardly open source.
