Using a Gateway / Router as a Switch

I have added another ethernet card to my primary Linux server, so I
have one for DMZ and one for the Local network. The problem is that I
don't have a free port on my DLink gateway / router. What I want to
do, is use my old Linksys 4 port gateway / router as a switch off of
the DLink.

I have set the linksys up with a static IP address, netmask of
255.255.255.252, and in router mode. This is not working.

Has anyone done anything similar and / or know how to make this work?
Everything I know says it should be possible.

Thanks
