Emergency! Accidental format of ext3

Because I am in complete paranoia mode, can you (or someone) confirm for 
me that the command:

# dd if=/dev/hda of=/path.to.file.img

is proper? Once the dd image is write, what is the best way to mount the 
image as a loopback device?
