WD200 200gig HD for Dell Server

Hello there

I am looking for advise to install this drive as a backup unit to a Dell
Poweredge 1600SC server.
The server runs on Redhat linux 9.
I am looking for help on the following:
The drive is brand new in a sealed case.
When I attach the drive, Do I have to set up the configuration setup before
Linux runs
Will I have to Mount the drive and format it
