I saw five years of Java experience in 1995, which meant they were trying to snag the two guys who inveted the language.

The most notorious is Microsoft technologies. Dot Net is less than 5 years old and you still see 'minimum five years experience' requirements.

Having a clue about what is required is not a needed in requirement circles.
