Is X working in Debian but not Suse? When you are at the blank screen, 
press <ctrl>+<alt>+<backspace>, that should kill and re-invoke X. Does 
that seem to do anything at all? I've got a Thinkpad A22m running Debian 
and I've had good luck with Debian. I haven't tried Suse yet though.
