Is an ITU colour target what you want:
<http://www.targets.coloraid.de/>? Or do you just want to get the gamma
of your monitor correct? If so, there are tools like Monica that can
help: <http://www.pcbypaul.com/linux/monica.html>.

Are you wanting a fully colour calibrated workflow? That is, from
capture to display to print, doing what you'd expect?

coloraid.de is fairly helpful for this sort of thing. It's a fiddly --
and occasionally expensive -- issue.

cheers,
  Stewart
