I was able to borrow and test out
the Targus PAUM30 (http://www.targus.com/ca/CategorySearch.asp?SearchedTerms=PAUM30)
on my linux (Libranet/Debian) laptop, it worked as soon as I plugged it in
and I was able to go bullet point by bullet point even on Acrobat 5.0.
Probably the other USB wireless pointers are just as easy and some my be
better, but I ordered this one since I know it will work with what I'm
using.

Thank you all very much for your help and suggestions.
