Samba and fstab

Do you really need to use CIFS? smb works fine for me, eg:

//squirrel/mp3 /mnt/mp3 smbfs username=mp3,password=******,rw,users 0 0

I use this syntax at home to mount my NSLU2 backup device (more details: 
<http://scruss.com/blog/index.php?p=325>), and Windows 2000 shares at work.
