Why ? It's a one-stop solution for all the servers on the machine and, 
assuming load is low, saves memory by not running those that are not 
called upon by clients. Also instead of running 1 dozen daemons you only 
run one. You can switch 'runlevels' by substituting inetd.conf and sending 
inetd a signal. Very convenient imho. Of course it is not a good idea for 
high load.
