Here is a wild suggestion: do you have a floppy in the floppy drive by 
any chance? I've never seen such a message for a CD. Or is that saying 
you have no OS on the hard drive?

In any case, make sure the CD is bootable and BIOS is set to boot from 
CD, or make a bootable floppy as John suggested (don't know how to do it 
for slackware).
