I ran 2.6 on woody for quite a while using some backports from
http://www.backports.org/debian/pool/main/m/module-init-tools/ ... do a
search on that site and you will also find some 2.6 kernel packages. I
haven't used these for a while but I would think they still work.

Same floppies, same machines??? Very odd.

I once downloaded an image where the wrong kernel modules were on the floppy
(i.e. modules were for 2.4.X, kernel was 2.4.Y). Perhaps that is your
problem?
