kernel compile

Hi,

I've successfully compiled 2.6.4 kernel, however I got some problems with 
making initrd, here is what i did:
> mkinitrd -k vmlinuz-2.6.4 -i initrd-2.6.4 -b /boot
What happens is boot process hangs up when loading initrd-2.6.4.
without initrd option kernel loads just fine.

Any suggestions?
