That "something" is probably Redhat's hardware detection utility
"Kudzu". Does the line have the word "kudzu" on it? If yes, then it
definitely was Kudzu. By the way, you don't have to reboot for Kudzu to
do it's "magic". Just run "kudzu" as root (you may have to check the man
page) and it should perform the same steps as at startup.
Or just run:
# /etc/init.d/kudzu restart

That's what I love most about Linux - you can do practically anything
with the computer (short of modifying the kernel or changing
non-hot-swappable hardware) and never have to close the document you are
working on! It's one area where Windows still has a long way to go!
