There is a gawk book online on many linux systems (I don't know where it
comes from). It covers extended regexps. The book on regexps is 'Mastering
Regular Expressions' by Jeffrey Friedl (O'Reilly). Watch out for editions,
I think the second or third one is actual.

PS: On my system the 'book' is in /usr/doc/packages/gawkdoc. It is FSF/GNU
copyrighted and written by SSC in Seattle. The proper title is 'Effective
AWK Programming' by Arnold D. Robbins. It has an ISBN.
