I had the issue with SiS sound chipset ( which is the same -
i810_audio ).
First of all, check if you are useing ALSA module. then make alsaconf.
Theck the settings of audio mixer by alsamixer
Then check what you are using. then try to play some MP3 from console via
mudplay.
If it works it means you have problems not with sound card but with sound
daemon, which is probably aRts.
In this case check sound config in Gnome or KDE and change AutoDetect to
ALSA.
If you still have an issue, like sound plays some time and when you closed
sound application you need to open it
again and application crashes, in this case you need restart aRts daemon
again before starting of application.
In this case you can issue command:
kill -HUP `pgrep artsd`
and then start sound appliction. I know it's sucks, but in my case it works.
