As root, I type the command
netconfig

It brings up a character screen from which I select DHCP. Everything goes
smoothly.

When I issue the command:
service network restart
I get the following:

Shutting down loopback interface [ OK ]
Setting network parameters [ OK ]
Bringing up loopback interface [ OK ]
Bringing up eth0:
Determining IP information for eth0...SIOCSIFFLAGS: Device or resource busy
Determining IP information for eth0...SIOCSIFFLAGS: Device or resource busy
                                       [FAILED]

There is quite a long pause (maybe 30 seconds) between the message
"Bringing up eth0:" and the rest of the message. This is also the message
I get whenever I boot up.
