Hi,

There are OpenOffice.org quick starters for both Gnome and KDE that work
on all systems.

For KDE, it is called  "oooqs-kde"
For GNOME, it is called  "ooqstart-gnome"

Both preload OpenOffice, and provide a nice taskbar icon + right-click
menu. Since they are X applications, they will terminate with the X
server, and they should work nicely with KDE's and GNOME's session managers.
