What about the other box? It's the difference between them that may be
important. It isn't likely to be the problem but I want to rule it out.
Some more stuff to post:
1. Routing table on each box
2. arp -a output as you are pinging the way that does not work.
And, any other devices on the network. Any chance that another device has
got the same IP as one of these? This will produce very odd and
inconsistent results. Again, not the likely cause IMHO but it needs to be
ruled out.
Also, you may wish to start replacing network cables, changing switch
ports, etc.
