What I was thinking (at the time) was to keep the repository on the key.

In the case where I'm logged in on 3 or 4 machines at the same time,
dock it on system foo, and get to it via protocol bar.  :)

I suppose the key factors are likely to be subversions footprint and the
repository size.  [The core files (including avalon) that I'd like to
keep don't take up much room - right now only a few 100K max.]

I've yet to try subversion, however, after the responses on this thread 
an installation is definitely on the way.
