I am installing FC2 (biding my time waiting for SuSE 9.1 Personal in the
mail). I know the IP address and mask that I am choosing are fine and
will work with my second PC. However, I don't know what to put for
"Hostname" so that it will be OK communicating with my second PC.
The FC2 installer gives the example, "host.domain.com". That threw me
for a loop because I thought that "hostname" is just one word -- say,
p733, and the fqdn would be something like p733.domain.xxx. Here is
the /etc/hosts of my second PC:
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 a800 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.0.2 p733 p733.local
[Did I just give this whole list access to my computer?!]
Based on that hosts file (if it is not too wierd), what would a good
choice be for what FC2 is calling "Hostname" computer? I wanted what I
*thought* was called "Hostname" to be "p733". The network configuration
of the second PC does work because I've moved files across the network
to it via scp -r.
