How to edit Debian apt-get sources file?

first you have 2 
deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main contrib
non-free
lines, delete one, then run apt-get update......second, 
ftp://mirror.direct.ca stable/main Packages is not connecting for
whatever reason, server is down or maybe wrong URL.....
