That is, however, not the *only* relevant law.  The DMCA makes some
particularly odious rules, and is probably enforceable only in the US...
but copying copyrighted material without permission, except for specific
legitimate purposes like backups, is copyright violation in almost any
country, including Canada. 

It sounds like Columbia has forgotten to revise their Threatening Letter
to match Canadian law, but that doesn't mean they can't make trouble
for you here.
