Sorry about answering this piecemeal. You bring up some good points, and I am 
rushing through other email. All of these packages (and much more) have been 
upgraded in a general system upgrade. I have done the required version 
checking, and all versions are equal to or above the recommended versions, and 
that includes glibc6.
