Can't find library.

Hi,

I just downloaded, built, and installed GNU parted.  But when I try to 
run it I get the message:


parted: error while loading shared libraries: libparted-1.6.12: cannot 
open shared object file: No such file or directory


That's strange!  libparted-1.6.12 is a symbolic link in /usr/local/lib  
... and it resolves OK.  I checked my /etc/ld.so.conf and it does 
indeed contain /usr/local/lib:

/usr/local/lib
/usr/X11R6/lib
/usr/i386-slackware-linux/lib
/opt/kde/lib
/usr/lib/qt/lib


Any thoughts on what might be messing up?
