Hi.  spamd is the daemon and spamc is a utility to connect to it.  I also
use Debian and don't recall seeing the daemon renamed at any point.

zen:~$ps ax | grep spam
  415 ?        S      0:21 /usr/sbin/spamd -c -d --pidfile=/var/run/spamd.pid
