WOOOT! Thanks Lennart! You know, it's funny, I had tried all of the jacks
previously, but in the meantime I had also run 'alsaconf', so decided to try
your suggestion, and BINGO!

...now Leonard Cohen's croaking monotone is coming out beautifully:
